How to identify what type is good for a Guardian

I'm writing this so everyone can go figure out for themselves what type is good for a guardian in the future.

Beginner Method

1) Whenever you catch any guardian, open up the Catalog from your Hunt or Profile button and search for the guardian you've caught.

2) Tap the Guardian you've caught and you will open up the Profile of the Guardian with Cool stats.

3) Compare all the stats and check which stat is the highest. Refer to this from Guardian Cross Guide in order to determine which type boost the highest stat even more.

4) Most of the time, that will be the best type after Ace for the guardian. To learn more, use the advanced method below.

Advanced Method

1) Follow all the steps above but in addition, JP Wiki or Guardian Cross Guide or my blog to find the skill set for the guardian you just caught.

2) Look out for any buffs (Haste, Cunning, Might... etc) Those raise the stats even higher, so factor in those buffs to determine the best type. For Dead Moon Desert guardians, the new skill 'Self-destruct' calculates damage from MP so Sexy type may be good for guardians with that skill too.

Shiva Guardian Cross Art

Removed the contest link because it was cancelled.

Here's my entry:

I sketched Shiva on 3DS's Colors!3D and touched up a bit on Pixelmator cause the 3DS screen was so small. The reference image was the card art and snowfield pop-up banner. I like her nonchalant pose a lot. I hope I captured it in this sketch. I changed her bead necklace from floating to resting around her shoulders from the card art cause it didn't make sense to me

Future Scope: Event Dungeons

Info from theguardiancross.com forum thread

JP is currently having one called "Vampire City" and one of the boss team is 10 Almighty Juggernaut with Quick Strike and Self-destruct skills. It's quite fun and something fresh to keep you interested in the game.

Question of the day: How do you take down 10 Almighty Titans?

Update 19/12/2012: Managed to defeat them, it wasn't too hard and didn't need a lot of dedicated Darkness/Wind Attackers

State of Coliseum Games in Guardian Cross

The game's 2 main aspects: hunting and coliseum are supposed to complement to each other. You try to hunt and train strong cards to compete with other players in the coliseum. However, I personally find that the coliseum portion of this game is failing to me due to hacks and loopholes in the game.

I first heard about multi-accounts card swapping between teams. These teams will hold the top positions of ranks and deny other players a chance for the prizes. If the prize was only the rare color-bordered card, it will not be as big of an issue as only limited copies are allowed in coliseum rules. However, there are stones involved so a multi-account user can amass a lot of them to fully stone their guardians resulting in more stronger "multiple" teams and the problem just worsen. Or if you look at it from duping point of view, the user will get all kinds of stones as template for duping.

The points system of the coliseum and the loophole of allowing card swapping are problems causing it. V1.2 in JP solves the card swapping loophole which reduces the need to introduce any points system revamp. The damage has already been done by the time we implement it, lots of stones will have already been used or hoarded.

Now, I'm seeing FP hacks showing up in Google searches. People can get unlimited FP which means unlimited coliseum, hunting tickets and potions. Again, out of them, coliseum tickets have the biggest direct impact on other players. You can basically just grind out wins, no matter even if it is 1, to reach the 50 total win bonus streak and get points. Even the 50 total win bonus streak, an achievement to encourage players, was exploited too! I hope the FP exploit is also covered-up in V1.2 in JP but even so, how many people will still be playing by then? To everyone spending money on recovery potions to try to get Coliseum tickets, know that you may be doing so only to compete against cheaters with virtually unlimited Coliseum tickets.

What is the point of competing in coliseum anymore? I understand the above hacks impact and exploit hunting too but if you take coliseum out of the equation, hunting for rare guardians is mainly an individual goal and will not affect other players other than friend battles.

There are many people who quit the game or are unhappy with it and I will say the main reason is because of coliseum and the competition but I think the hunting portion of the game is still working and fun.

As much as I'm disaapointed in the game, I like the guardians and artwork so I won't quit the game but I'll "quit" the coliseum! (but just play it casually enough to get the special hunting tickets) I'm just going to collect guardians from now on. To all those who consider quitting, perhaps consider to keep on hunting! You may not always get a 5* but if you caught one, there is still a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Happy hunting, Guardian Masters.

Future Scope: Dead Moon Desert New Guardians Notes

I heard JP Guardian Cross is having a Dead Moon Desert only for the 21st Coliseum game Advance level. I'm compiling the 4* and 5* in advance using the Guardian Cross (GC) Jp Wiki.

5*

Earth

Behemoth
Shape: ? (Should be Giant Furry Shadow)

Skills:

Level 1: Last Stand (revive with 1 HP and 1MP)
Level 15: Ice Spike (earth+2)
Level 30: Greater Protect (defence+20%)
Level 40: Double Impact (physical+3)
Level 50: Rock Bite (earth+3)

Comments: High HP, Attack and Defence Golem-type Guardian with a higher than average Wisdom. It doesn't come with any +4 skills. I will pick skills: 1, 4 and 5 or 1, 3, 4(Powerful)/5(Intelligent) depending on the type.

Death

Serenade Banshee
Shape: Female Humanoid Shadow

Skills:

Level 1: Death Gaze (Death+1)
Level 15: Death Touch (Death+2)
Level 30: Greater Protect (Wisdom+20%)
Level 40: Death Hold (Death+3)
Level 50: Death Kiss (Death+4)

Comments: I think a lot of people, including myself, like the card art. She has insane Wisdom and even before the wisdom buff; 3000~ range. Her speed is also pretty good. The death skills have a probability to kill in 1 hit. Skills: 3, 4 and 5.

Mictlantecuhtli
Shape: Floater

Skills:

Level 1: Self-destruct (when killed, deal damage according to its MP, I think. I heard from Mystogan in the GC forum that if it is the last guardian in your team and it self-destructs and kills, you get the win)
Level 15: Cunning (Wisdom+10%)
Level 30: Poison Field (Poison+3)
Level 40: Venom Riot (Poison+4)
Level 50: Greater Cunning (Wisdom+20%)

Comments: Insane Wisdom like Seranade Banshee after its 2 wisdom buffs but you'll probably keep the 20% one in favour of self-destruct. Skills: 1, 4 and 5.

Mecha

Nuada
Shape: Male Humanoid Shadow

Skills:

Level 1: Last Stand (revive with 1 HP and 1MP)
Level 15: Greater Might (attack+20%)
Level 30: Double Impact (Physical+3)
Level 40: Hard Strike (Physical+3)
Level 50: Storm Impact (Physical+4)

Comments: High Attack and defence Guardian. I think he might be one of the more optimal users of Last Stand as his attack is high and even higher with the buff. Skills: 1, 2, 5.

Light

Sphinx Empress
Shape: Wolf

Skills:

Level 1: Quick Strike (First strike right before battle even begins)
Level 15: Greater Might (Attack+20%)
Level 30: Mind Blast (Wisdom-20%)
Level 40: Double Impact (Physical+3)
Level 50: Shine Burst (Light+3)

Comments: Versatile guardian with high overall stats and only Defence stat is the weakest.
Elemental-built skills: 1, 3, 5 but it will be better replace 5 with a elemental+4.
Physical-built skills: 1, 2 and 4 but it will be better replace 4 with a physical+4

4*

Fire

Aim
Shape: ?

Skills:

Level 1: Burning Strike (Fire+2)
Level 15: Heavy Blow (Physical+2)
Level 30: Might (Attack+10%)
Level 40: Greater Might (Attack+20%)
Level 50: Self-Destruct (when killed, deal damage according to its MP, I think. I heard from Mystogan in the GC forum that if it is the last guardian in your team and it self-destructs and kills, you get the win)

Comments: Physical attacker because of naturally high attack stats and the 2 buffs. He needs a physical+3 skill stoning to become deadly. Those physical+3 skill stones are getting lots of usage for 4* guardians. (Qiong Ji and Revenant both needs it too) Skills: 3,4 and 2 to be replaced with physical+3 or 4, 5 and 2 to be replaced with physical+3

Update 25/11/2012: You can have it learn 3,4 and 5 and make it a pure Kamikaze bomber! Sexy types are going to be useful. Self-destruct does not happen 100% like revive though...

Atar

Shape: ?

Skills:

Level 1: Burning Strike (Fire+2)
Level 15: Heal (HP Recover)
Level 30: Explosion (Fire+3)
Level 40: Greater Might (Attack+20%)
Level 50: Quick Strike (First strike right before battle even begins)

Comments: His highest stat is defence and he can go down either the physical or the elemental attacker route. A lot of the new guardians are more versatile and it makes things more interesting. He has the new skill, Quick Strike skill that I think uses the attack stat and it also does not benefit from the attack buff due to the the attack taking place before battle starts. Elemental-built skills: 1, 3 and 5. Physical-built skills: 4, 5 and a Physical+3 stone (another one requiring it!)

Lightning

Narasimha
Shape: Floater

Skills:

Level 1: Might (Attack+10%)
Level 15: Thunder Strike (Lightning+2)
Level 30: Heavy Blow (Physical+3)
Level 40: Greater Might (Attack+20%)
Level 50: Call Lightning (Lightning+3)

Comments: Hectachonheir/Golem's All-out physical clone. No defence buff to make decisions harder. Wisdom stat is too low for the lightning attacks to deal much damage, I think. Skills: 1, 3 and 4.

Wind

Rudra
Shape: ?

Skills:

Level 1: Wind Edge (Wind+2)
Level 15: Haste (Agility+10%)
Level 30: Greater Heal (Big HP heal)
Level 40: Whirlwind (Wind+3)
Level 50: Greater Haste (Agility+20%)

Comments: Qiong Ji's All-out Speed clone but is elemental based and comes with Wind+3. I think this is quite a good guardian and can probably take out slower 5*. Skills: 2, 4 and 5.

Poison

Tokotsu
Shape: ? (I'm guessing Wolf)

Skills:

Level 1: Poison Bubble (Poison+1)
Level 15: Protect (Defence+10%)
Level 30: Greater Protect (Defence+20%)
Level 40: Poison Mist (Poison+2)
Level 50: Last Stand (Revive with 1 HP and 1MP)

Comments: The attack stat is higher than the wisdom stat so it probably needs a physical+3 stone. I think a higher attack stat will benefit Last Stand as all you can do when you come back is do a normal attack. I will use skills: 3, 5 and 4 until it is stoned with a physical+3. If both defence buffs are kept, the defence stat can reach high numbers.

Light

Barong
Shape: ?

Skills:

Level 1: Shine Smite (Light+2)
Level 15: Heavy Blow (Physical+2)
Level 30: Greater Protect (Defence+20%)
Level 40: Greater Haste (Agility+20%)
Level 50: Shine Burst (Light+3)

Comments: The attack is higher but it gets elemental attacks. I think it will also need a physical+3 stone. Skills: 3, 4, 5 but replace 5 with physical+3 unless you get an Intelligent-type.

Horus
Shape: Bird

Skills:

Level 1: Cross Slash (Physical+2)
Level 15: Quick Strike (First strike right before battle even begins)
Level 30: Shine Smite (Light+2)
Level 40: Greater Haste (Agility+20%)
Level 50: Shine Burst (Light+3)

Comments: Elemental attacker. Defence and wisdom are its highest stat before buff as only agility gets the 20% buff which will make it the highest stat. Quick Strike will not be strong for this guardian. Skills: 2, 4 and 5

Overall, I think the new skills are going to be fun. I like how the guardians are more versatile to be able to build as an elemental or physical attacker. More 4* guardians are going to need that Physical+3 stones so start saving up!

Guardian Cross: 5* Guardians' True Stats (On-going edit)

I shall go straight to the buffed stats ranking for maxed level cool type 5*.

(Table is now outdated, new table below)

I've included the "Great" versions of Coliseum prize because I find them very similar in stats to the normal 5*. Yellow represents the stat that got buffed. Red represents un-buffed but stats in the region of 3000.

Some findings:

- Shiva is both an extremely strong elemental and physical tank. Brave and Wisdom type are good after Ace type. Those 2 types are the ones that does not affect her other high number stats. She is not going to be fast anyway so building her up as a tank is better.

- Bahamut, Dominion and Valkyrie are actually more "physical" than "elemental" attackers. However, Bahamut's wisdom stat also happen to be one of the highest making him more versatile. Dominion's wisdom stat is second highest out of the 3 with Valkyrie last.

- Atlas' insane attack stats makes physical+3 skills "seem" viable. However, physical+4 should guarantee that nothing stands in his way. He just needs 2700MP and with his high HP, he should be able to tank a hit. Powerful type is not required and an intelligent type's usefulness is questionable as he is only left with the Attack+20% buff assuming both buffs are learnt; Attack+10% cancels out the Intelligent-Attack stat handicap.

- Fujin's speed is the 3rd highest after buff. Its speed is its greatest assest.

- Gargantuan has the highest HP and Attack without any buffs required. Chaotic and Powerful types are both good after Ace.

- Phoenix's Defence is one of the highest when its speed normally gets all the attention.

- Mephistopheles has the highest Wisdom, followed by Bahamut and Raijin. She does not need to be  Intelligent-type to finish off almost any guardian with her Darkness+4 ability but a Powerful Chaotic type which reduces wisdom is not as good.

- Juggernaut and Stymphalian are both "glass cannon"-s (lowest HP). Interestingly, if Juggernaut learns the defence buff, instead of the defence debuff which most people choose to go for the guaranteed kill, raises his defence to the highest in the game. It just might be able to hold out against physical attacks. Chaotic Juggernaut might be good after Ace to ensure he better survives physical attacks. It might not be as "glass cannon" as Stymphalian as long as it does not face an elemental attacker.

- Great Banshee Witch, losing the increase in wisdom stat from her mighty and almighty cousins, is the weakest. Unstoned or types other than Powerful and Intelligent is going to have a hard time killing Guardians. She needs a Physical+4 and Attack stat stoning to combo with the defence debuff and boost her deadliness.

Update 13/11/2012:

I forgot about Lord of Inferno! It's the reason why I'm keeping the table for cool types only. He's been added along with some updates to the Snowfield Guardians after checking from Guardian Cross Guide Blog. Coincidentally, Lord of Inferno is usable in this week's Snowfield only Coliseum along with the other invitationals guardians as they could supposedly be hunted in Snowfield during an event in the Jp version. (We'll probably get it too after our first invitational event is over.) Surprisingly, it is ranked in the top 10 for both it's versions!

Guardian Cross: v1.0 4* Guardians' True Stats (contains Storm Reach Snowfield 4*)

If you read postings and wikis about the guardians, you will see people posting the level 1/maxed cool and ace stats. I compiled all level 1 cool types into a table sorted by their total stats and you will see why everyone is calling Vampire and Golems the best 4* guardians. I had to use cool to be fair because of Cerberus is a cool type maxed level only.

If you based on the above ranking, the general consensus that Hecatoncheir is up there with the best 4* is no longer true. but why is it ranked so low. You'll also be surprised that the 4 giant Guardians in Glaverow Volcanic Region you spent so many tickets to kill are actually in the top 10! However, these are all level 1s and nobody will want to bring a level 1 into battle. You will bring maxed level guardians and when maxed, most guardians come with buff skills which make a significant change to the Guardians' stats. Firstly, a legend of the names I give to the buff combinations possible for some Guardians.

Defensive Physical - Defence + X% and Attack + X%

Fast Physical - Agility + X% and Attack + X%

Defensive Elemental - Defence + X% and Wisdom + X%

Physical Elemental - Attack + X% and Wisdom + X%

All-out Physical - Attack + small X% and Attack + big X%

All-out Defend - Defence + small X% and Defence + big X%

Full-speed - Agility + small X% and Agility + big X%

Elemental - Wisdom + X%

Physical - Attack + X%

Defensive - Defence + X%

Note: Attack benefits your physical attack skills as well as normal attacks. Wisdom benefits your elemental attack skills as well as boost elemental defence. All buffs affect the battle right away except agility buffs/debuffs which only takes effect from the 2nd attack onwards.

With buffs, this is the ranking of V1.0 4* Guardians with their true stats. (based on maxed level cool type)

(Updated table can be found further down the post)

I used yellow to show the buffed stats and red to show a stat that has reached 5* Guardian-level.

You can see that Golem and Vampire retain their position at the top but the giant Guardians of Glaverow are still at the top. Hecatoncheir remains out of the top 10 but the reason that it is considered top is because of that 5* Guardian-level attack for the All-out Physical version. Golem is the only other 4* Guardian that reachs 5* Guardian-level attack. Both of them should be able to 1-shot quite a number of 5* Guardians.

For Fast Guardians with High attacks after Vampire, Byakko is the surprise front-runner. I've personally faced some powerful Byakkos. It even has higher HP and Defence so the potential is there.

4* Guardians with high wisdom are hard to come by. Glaverow Volcanic Region guardians have the highest possible wisdom and another giant Guardian, Genbu, is in the top 2. It can learn either an attack buff or wisdom buff but the wisdom stats is naturally higher. Ramiel is next but its wisdom, although high, can't hold a candle to the top 2.

For the rest of the stats: Wind types are the fastest and Vampire is the next in line. Golem and Genbu have the highest defense, even higher than an All-out defend Cerberus! Revenant takes the crown as the 4* with the highest HP.

I did not include debuffs as it can be situational and depends on the opponent Guardians. (Giant and Fenrir can both do a defence debuff with an attack buff for serious damage but if the opponent's defence is high...) One exception is Qiong-ji, the agility debuff - 20% together with its agility buff of + 20% can be potentially powerful. Do also note that these are true stats are only the Cool version, Ace and the other types will have stats that are boosted even further.

Therefore, after Ace type, the highest stats that can get further boosted will be strong Guardians; Powerful Golem and Hecatonchier, Fast Qiong-Ji, Intelligent Pabilsag and Genbu are the top 4*. Vampire and Byakko will be good for a Powerful or Fast type.

I'm expecting some more new Guardians at the Glaverow Volcanic Region before v1.1 and will update when they arrive.

Source: Guardian Cross (GC) Jp Wiki linkGuardian Cross Guide Blog and this thread at the guardiancross-forum.com.

Next up: The True Stats of the v1.0 5* Guardians.

Update 10/11/2012:

Maxed Level Cool Type

The newest 4* Guardians do not rank high and most do not have any notable buffs to help. Power has the highest overall stats out of them and his attack stats is also the highest. Powerful/Ace types attack stats is in the Top 5 highest attack Guardian. (Rank 4) On a side note, Power, Jotunn and Talos have higher HP then most of the old Guardians.

Guardian Cross Storm Reach Snowfield Zone 5* and 4* Guardians Notes

I think a lot of us were expecting a v1.1 rollout by Square Enix with the new Hunting Ground but it came earlier with no version update in sight. I'm not sure if that was the case in Japan but if so, our English version may be on a different schedule to the Japan version. I expect the Coliseum rule change that was implemented in Japan's v1.2 to come earlier in our v1.1. That is something to look out for!

On a related note, the next upcoming 8th Beginning Coliseum Game rules that you can only use up to 5 5* in your team. It makes it really interesting there in terms of strategy and you can also see that Square Enix is trying to solve the multiple account issue in the game. The normal Coliseum will allow 2 colored-border Guardians. The powerful players just got more powerful!

Update 10/11/2012: The next Coliseum game (9th) will be Snowfield-only Guardians! I will post some notes on 3* and below guardians to try and help everyone in making team decisions.

Storm Reach Snowfield Zone 5* Guardians

I think the 5* guardians here are stronger than the current ones. All future 5* are going to get stronger to attract players. The current ones have the advantage of being stoned to higher stats so new players get a chance if they can capture the new 5*. It was also said that stronger guardians will be released to combat the duping issue.

Water

Shiva
Shape: Humanoid

Skills:

Level 1: Aqua Shot (water+2)
Level 15: Greater Protect (defence+20%)
Level 30: Aqua Blast (water+3)
Level 40: Slow (agility-20%)
Level 50: Maelstorm (water+4)

Comments: Very high Intelligent as well as overall stats. It has the highest along with the Banshee Witch prize Guardian. I think it can act as a strong elemental tank and can position like how some people place Azi Dahaka at the first place of the deck. Skills: 2, 4 and 5.

Earth

Atlas
Shape: Wolf

Skills:
Level 1: Heavy Blow (physical+2)
Level 15: Might (attack+10%)
Level 30: Double Impact (physical+3)
Level 40: Greater Might (attack+20%)
Level 50: Storm Impact (physical+4)

Comments: Nice card art. Imagine Golem as a 5*, 'nuff said. It has one of the highest HP stats too. Skills: 2, 4 and 5. Japan Wiki also recommends skills 2, 3 and 4 but it may be due for insufficient MP-types or the +3 attack is good enough? (I did not calculate for all types but it is something worth noting) To be on the safe side, MP stone up Atlas to be able to cast +4 twice.

Mecha

Stymphalian Bird
Shape: Bird

Skills:
Level 1: Heavy Blow (physical+2)
Level 15: Defence Down (defence-20%)
Level 30: Double Impact (physical+3)
Level 40: Greater Haste (agility+20%)
Level 50: Storm Impact (physical+4)

Comments: If I'm not wrong, this just took the place of Phoenix as the fastest Guardian. The only peculiar thing about it is that only the Ace and Sexy versions can cast all the buffs as well as the +4 twice. I will still try Skills: 2, 4 and 5 for other types. Stand-by a +3 physical stones for the buff which is least useful to your team.

Wind

Fujin
Shape: Floater

Skills:
Level 1: Whirlwind (wind+3)
Level 15: Weakness (attack-20%)
Level 30: Mind Blast (wisdom-20%)
Level 40: Greater Haste (agility+20%)
Level 50: Tornado (wind+4)

Comments: High overall stats like Shiva. Our English version skills are different according to guardiancross-forum.com. Skills: 3, 4 and 5. Wind+4 is highly sought for and useful against the strong Earth and Darkness Guardians and this Guardian comes with it built-in.

Lightning

Raijin
Shape: Floater

Skills:
Level 1: Thunder Strike (lightning+2)
Level 15: Greater Cunning (wisdom+20%)
Level 30: Call Lightning (lightning+3)
Level 40: Double Impact (physical+3)
Level 50: Chain Lightning (lighnint+4)

Comments: High overall stats like Fujin and Shiva. The Japan skill set was a little boring but our English version got the wisdom buff which makes it more interesting. There is talk that people are getting Raijin with different skills like the color-border Ifrit. In my opinion, this makes things more interesting! Skills: 2, 4 and 5.

Storm Reach Snowfield Zone 4* Guardians

Mecha

Talos
Shape: Giant

Skills:
Level 1: Cross Slash (Physical+2)
Level 15: Burning Strike (Fire+2)
Level 30: Greater Protect (Defence+20%)
Level 40: Hard Slash (Physical+3)
Level 50: Explosion (Fire+3)

Comments: It has high stats in Attack, Defence and HP like Golem. The last 3 skills are the best although I doubt Explosion will be frequently cast. Powerful type will the best after Ace for that better guaranteed kill.

Fire

Fafnir
Shape: Serpent

Skills:
Level 1: Cross Slash (Physical+2)
Level 15: Protect (Defence+20%)
Level 30: Defence Down (Defence-20%)
Level 40: Weakness (Attack-20%)
Level 50: Hard Slash (Physical+3)

Comments: Average overall stats. A lot of debuff skills on this one. The Defence Down is a good combo with the Physical+3 attack so a powerful type will be the next best one after Ace. Last 3 skills are the best choices.

Water

Jotunn
Shape: Giant

Skills:
Level 1: Aqua Shot (Water+2)
Level 15: Heavy Blow (Physical+2)
Level 30: Slow (Agility-20%)
Level 40: Aqua Blast (Water+3)
Level 50: Hard Slash (Physical+3)

Comments: Physical attacker-type. Powerful type should be the second best type for a better guaranteed kill with the agility debuff to offset the low agility.

Light

Power
Shape: Humanoid

Skills:
Level 1: Shine Smite (Light+2)
Level 15: Cross Slash (Physical+2)
Level 30: Shine Blast (Light+3)
Level 40: Dark Psalm (Darkness+3)
Level 50: Hard slash (Physical+3)

Comments: Looks like another fallen angel. The artwork is cool but the name is a little boring... The attack is very high (Kraken-after attack buff-level for powerful types) making Fast and Powerful types both viable ones after Ace. Intelligent type is possible too as he comes with Light and Dark elemental attacks but may not get high 1-shot kill probabilities than the powerful types. Last 3 skills are recommended.

Death

Spector
Shape: Floater

Skills:
Level 1: Dark Pain (Darkness+2)
Level 15: Aqua Shot (Water+2)
Level 30: Energy Drain (MP Drain)
Level 40: Dark Psalm (Darkness+3)
Level 50: Aqua Blast (Water+3)

Comments: Elemental attacker-type but the wisdom stat for Intelligent type is only about as high as Power's Intelligent type. That being said, Intelligent is the best for her as she has attack is low. Skills 1, 4 and 5 as Darkness+2 will be more useful compared to Water+2.

Storm Reach Snowfield Zone 3* Guardians Notes

I'm looking at the choices based on what information is available. The following should be good for consideration.

Darkness

Rangda
Shape: Humanoid

Skills:
Level 1: Darkness (Darkness+1)
Level 15: Weakness (Attack-20%)
Level 30: Defence Down (Defence-20%)
Level 40: Slow (Agility-20%)
Level 50: Mind Blast (Wisdom-20%)

Comments: She has a chance to take down 4-5* if maxed and given a elemental+3 stone as her intelligent stat is high for intelligent and ace types! That is the kind of potential I think she has. Otherwise, you can use her as a pure debuffer as she learns all 4 types.
Suggested:
- Offensive: Skill 4, 5 and a elemental+3 attack from stone.
- Debuffer: Skill 3, 4 and 5.

Sleipnir
Shape: Wolf

Skills:
Level 1: Darkness (Darkness+1)
Level 15: Haste (Agility+10%)
Level 30: Dark Pain (Darkness+2)
Level 40: Heavy Blow (Physical+2)
Level 50: Greater Haste (Agility+20%)

Comments: Needs a physical+3 stone to be useful but it's speed can get quite high with all the buffs. Skills 2, 4 and 5. 4 Replaced with a physical+3 stone.

Lightning

Taranis
Shape: Humanoid

Skills:
Level 1: Thunder Bolt (Lightning+1)
Level 15: Darkness (Darkness+1)
Level 30: Thunder Strike (Lightning+2)
Level 40: Dark Pain (Darkness+2)
Level 50: Call Lightning (Lightning+3)

Comments: It learns Lightning+3, that's why it can be useful. I recommend the last 3 skills.

Wind

Umu Dabrutu
Shape: Bird

Skills:
Level 1: Wind Cutter (Wind+1)
Level 15: Slash (Physical+1)
Level 30: Wind Edge (Wind+2)
Level 40: Cross Slash (Physical+2)
Level 50: Whirlwind (Wind+3)

Comments: It learns Wind+3, that's why it can be useful. I recommend the last 3 skills.

Level 1: Slash (Physical+1)

Storm Reach Snowfield Zone 2* Guardians Notes

You'll probably want to look for pure debuffer Guardians if you are considering 2*.

Not enough information gathered from the Jp Wiki.

Storm Reach Snowfield Zone 1* Guardians Notes

You'll probably want to look for pure debuffer Guardians if you are considering 1*.

Earth

Parandus
Shape: Wolf

Skills:
Level 1: Slow (Agility-20%)
Level 15: Mind Blast (Wisdom-20%)
Level 30: Cross Slash (Physical+2)

Comments: You can also leave it with 1 skill to debuff agility and put it in front of your slower guardians.

Water

Frost Worm
Shape: Serpent

Skills:
Level 1: Slash (Physical+1)
Level 15: Weakness (Slow-20%)
Level 30: Aqua Shot (Water+2)

Comments: Train it to at least level 15 to get the agility debuff.

Poison

Vapak
Shape: Humanoid

Skills:
Level 1: Poison Bubble (Poison+1)
Level 15: Mind Blast (Wisdom-20%)
Level 30: Poison Mist (Poison+2)

Comments: Mind Blast at level 15.

Future Scope: Glaverow Volcaonic Zone Giant Giants Event

This is an event that is pretty much like our current Bahamut one but is currently happening over at the Japan servers. This time round, the special 5* is the same shape as all the non-special ones so no Giant-resetting trick can be used. I can't wait for this to arrive at our English servers.

Once again, I'm compiling ahead using the Guardian Cross (GC) Jp Wiki.

5*

Lightning

Gilgamesh
Shape: Giant

Skills:

Level 1: Last Stand (revive with 1HP, I think?)
Level 15: Call Lightning (lightning+3)
Level 30: Greater Cunning (wisdom+20%)
Level 40: Slow (agility-20%)
Level 50: Chain Lightning (lightning+4)

Comments: High stats overall, only agility is the weakest. However, it has high HP and wisdom and make for a very good tank Go for Skill 1, 3 and 5. (Skill 3,4 and 5 looks good too but that "Last Stand " skill is too good according to the JP Wiki recommendations. If it is a revive like ability, it is definitely worth it)

Update 10/11/2012:  Last Stand is a revival-like ability except that you return with 1 HP and 1 MP. It makes fast and powerful type important to get the additional and strong hit.

4*

Machine

Dwarf Gear
Shape: Giant

Skills:

Level 1: Hard Slash (physical+3)
Level 15: Might (attack+10%)
Level 30: Greater Haste (agility+20%)
Level 40: Greater Cunning (wisdom+20%)
Level 50: Greater Might (attack+20%)

Comments: I like the art on this one. The most interesting part about this Guardian is that it gets 4 good buffs and you get to make your own choices. This makes Intelligent, Powerful, Fast types all good. However, Intelligent types require a elemental +3 attack stone. It's hard to recommend the skill path to take, you can either go all-out attack or offensive-physical or offensive-elemental.

Earth

Bugbear (Hope I got the name right!)
Shape: Giant

Skills:

Level 1: Ice Spike (earth+2)
Level 15: Heavy Blow (physical+2)
Level 30: Defence Down (defence-20%)
Level 40: Double Impact (physical+3)
Level 50: Rock Bite (earth+3)

Comments: Compared to the other Giants, this one doesn't look as strong. I will say the overall stats are average. The last 3 skills are the best.

Update 10/11/2012: Powerful type will be good to complement the defence debuff.

Death

Bune
Shape: Giant

Skills:

Level 1: Greater Protect (defence+20%)
Level 15: Death Touch (death+2)
Level 30: Greater Cunning (wisdom+20%)
Level 40: Dark Pain (darkness+2)
Level 50: Revive (revival)

Comments: This Guardian comes with the new Death elemental attacks. I think it will be first introduced in the 4th Hunting Ground Desert zone. Those attacks have a probability to 1-hit kill anything! This guardian can easily become the best 4* because it just needs to be fast/"tanky"/revive and you need to have luck and it may easily take down more than 2 maxed level guardians which is the most we hope for in the high-level coliseum battles. Once the death skills/stones arrive in our game, all hell will break loose! Did I mention that it comes with revive? Skills 2,3 and 5. (Skill 3 isn't even needed. You just want to cast death+2 as many times as possible in battle)

Darkness

Balor
Shape: Giant

Skills:

Level 1: Dark Pain (darkness+2)
Level 15: Slow (agility-20%)
Level 30: Defence Down (defence-20%)
Level 40: Cunning (Wisdom+10%)
Level 50: Dark Psalm (darkness+3)

Comments: This guardian should be an elemental attacker. I think the attack stats might be too low to be potent even with the Defence Down debuff. Chaotic types might want to go the physical route with a physical+3 stoning as wisdom stat is reduced. Following JP Wiki's recommendations, use Skill 2, 4 and 5.

A little personal update (Guardian Cross)

I'm going into semi-retirement for the game; I'm just going to play casually and hopefully keep it to once a day. I want to spend my time on other things as the Coliseum can be really time-consuming and energy-draining (no pun intended). I've set a personal goal to try and catch as many of the 5* as possible and complete my catalog. I'll still be writing posts about the guardians as I like the game a lot.
